3 Tips to Market Your Business

In the iconic movie Field of Dreams, the lead character Ray (actor Kevin Costner) heard a voice in the cornfield say, “If you build it, he will come.” This was in reference to building a baseball diamond on his farm, and who would come to it. While this worked for Ray, this is not a strategy for entrepreneurs. You must deliberately have a plan to let others know about your business, products/services.

Following are three ways entrepreneurs can market their businesses.
1. Website. An eye-catching website is important to your business and your online presence. It helps people find you. There are plenty of free templates available to build a website as well as professionals to help build websites.

2. Networking. Fort Wayne has many networking opportunities available and some networking groups. This can be a great way to spread the word about your business and make connections that could potentially lead to sales.

3. Social media. Share your expertise with a blog or a short informational video to convey your expertise or credibility. It will also give you visibility with the online communities. Post information on a regular basis so people know what day and time to look for your new information.

Bonus tip—remember to ask for referrals. This “gem” was learned/reinforced by Kelly Ambriole, Wilcox & Associates, at the recent Cross-selling & Upselling Workshop co-sponsored by The NIIC and 1st Source Bank. Customers who are happy with your product or service will typically be glad to provide referrals to their families, friends and co-workers. Don’t be afraid to ask!

Promoting one’s business can be a challenge, but finding the strategy that works for you is necessary for a successful business.
