A successful Staff Accountant…

  • Has 2 or more years of experience with Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, and payroll processing in a non-profit setting
  • 2 years of post-secondary education in finance or accounting
  • Is fluent in the following software:
    • QuickBooks desktop or online
    • Microsoft Excel
    • Google
    • Willing to learn new software as business needs require
  • Has experience working with external auditors
  • Understands revenue and expense allocations and can track those allocations against dynamic budgets
  • Is highly detail-oriented and an effective written and verbal communicator

The Staff Accountant is responsible for…

  • Weekly accounts payable maintenance, including proper approvals and bill maintenance
  • Weekly accounts receivable maintenance, including ACH captures for rental contracts, POS credit capture, customer maintenance
  • Biweekly payroll processing including, new hire documentation preparation, liaison with hiring managers, time clock maintenance
  • Credit card reconciliation
  • Accuracy of organization’s General Ledger
  • Maintenance and improvement of organization’s accounting policies and protocols (e.g., credit card use policy, purchase request policy, grant reporting policies)
  • Lead the audit preparation process, gathering required documentation
  • Collaboration with financial team on creation of annual budget
  • Assist with grant compliance internally and with external compliance audit
  • Assist the CFO and CEO with financial reporting as required

Work arrangement:  At The NIIC

Schedule:  Part-time hours, approximately 16-20 hours a week. Scheduled days are based on business need.
